Systech International demonstrates wireless SmogCheck at UC Davis

(Davis, CA)  Systech International will demonstrate an innovative new technology at UC Davis that performs SmogCheck inspections while driving on the road.  The demonstration will begin at noon, March 18, 2010, at the UC Davis Fleet Services facility on La Rue Road and Garred Drive.

Systech has developed this wireless technology, called Remote OBD, to offer California motorists a convenient alternative to traditional periodic SmogCheck inspections.  In addition to providing consumer convenience, using the Remote OBD system will generate more air quality improvement benefits than traditional periodic inspections.

For about the same price as a SmogCheck test, a vehicle owner can make a one-time purchase of a Remote OBD Link™ and install the link in the vehicle.  The Remote OBD Link™ continuously monitors the vehicle’s emission systems and wirelessly reports the vehicle’s emission conditions at no additional charge so that the owner can make timely repairs.

Systech will join the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) “Continuous Testing Program” (CTP), thus permitting vehicle owners in Davis and other cities in California to no longer visit SmogCheck stations for their biennial inspections.  The Remote OBD system will introduce a new dimension to the CTP, which has thus far been focused on vehicle fleet operators.  Systech’s Remote OBD will bring the benefits of the CTP program to the general public.

Participation in the CTP using the Systech “Remote OBD” system will be offered to a limited number of vehicle owners in Davis free of charge as part of an initial pilot test.    Motorists participating in the initial pilot program will be able to leave the Remote OBD Link™ installed on their vehicle as long as they wish.  In order to remain in the CTP program, the participating vehicle owner must have any emissions system problems fixed within 45 days after the problem occurred.

At the demonstration on Thursday, an overview of the CTP process will be given.  Then Systech will show the simplicity of the installation of a Remote OBD Link™ on a vehicle.  Next, Systech will present how the vehicle’s OBD data is wirelessly reported to a central database.  Finally, Systech will show how the vehicle owner will be notified of a problem and how vehicle owners can review their vehicle’s status on-line.
